27 October 07 - 06:02We've been a little busy - Dems vs Greens vs FF
Australian Democrats leader, Senator Lyn Allison has just put up an excellent YouTube post on the peformance in the senate of the Australan Democrats compared with the Greens and Family First. The Democrats senators have been far more active in the parliament than the other minor parties. It really demonstrates that the other minor parties are all talk and media stunts backed up by very little action in the parliament (where it counts).
The stats Lyn quotes are from the senate from 2005 onwards - so that means the totals are based on the actions of the current senate, where both the Democrats and the Greens have 4 senators each, which makes the Greens' poor performance in the senate even more shocking.
14 October 07 - 15:19Tim Wright for Melbourne and Richard Grossi for Bruce
One of the best things about being a VicDem at the moment is seeing some outstanding people working in YADs (Young Australian Democrats).
I have already blogged about Laura Chipp, but there are plenty of other people in Vic YADs doing a lot of good work, including our candidate for Melbourne, Tim Wright, and our candidate for Bruce, Richard Grossi. It's great to see more young people getting involved in all political parties, and I'm really happy that the VicDems have endorsed these outstanding candidates from YADs.
It's nearly time for the start of this year's nanowrimo. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, the challenge is to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days during November. Of course, no one is claiming that this will result in a good novel. I've made really pathetic attempts at this for the last few years (the furthest I have ever gotten was to painfully eke out about 2500 words last year), and there's no way I can see myself getting anywhere with it this year, because on top of the time taken up by work, I'll be involved in the 2007 federal election campaign for the Australian Democrats. Oh well, at least it should be a bit of a fun distraction.
30 Rock is fantastic. It's the funniest thing I've seen since Arrested Development.
I can see why it won the Emmy for best comedy series, and I reckon Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin (who are both brilliant) should have won in the Best Comedy Actress and Actor categories. I'll probably rave on about it in a bit more detail soon.
Nathan Buckley has retired from football .
It's disappointing he never got the chance to play in a grand final winning team, but he still retires as a great player.
