23 February 07 - 22:52Connex hacked by illiterate morons
I just got an SMS (along with probably half of Melbourne) from Connex's SMS train update service as follows:
ALLAHU AKBR FROM CONNEX! our inspectorS
Love Killing people - If you see one coming, run.
Want to bomb a train? they will gladly help! See you in hell!
Looks like someone has hacked into their SMS service to send the message, and who now probably has the mobile phone numbers of everyone who uses the update service. Bloody wonderful. And that's not how you spell Allahu Akbar! What complete f#wits.

13 February 07 - 11:44Intel 80-core processor and OpenMacGrid
Here are a couple of articles I need to get around to reading, which may also interest other geeks:
Intel's 80 core processor (which can apparently do
1.8 TeraFlops),
and:
The OpenMacGrid, for distributed computing using Mac OS X and Apple's Xgrid.
(Both via
slashdot).

10 February 07 - 18:56RIP Ian Richardson
Ian Richardson has
died. He was 72.
Ian Richardson was a brilliant actor, who had an extensive stage and
film career, with a great diversity in roles, such as a bureaucrat in
Brazil, Polonius in
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Sherlock Holmes in
The Hound of the Baskervilles and a gay admiral in the film version of
Whoops Apocalypse, but he was most famous for his portrayal of British Conservative politician
Francis Urquhart in the
BBC adapation of Michael Dobbs' House of Cards trilogy, which is one of the best political satires ever produced for television. Richardson's portrayal of Urquhart was superb - he was both calculatingly ruthless and utterly charming. Although Urquhart was completely appalling, it was impossible not to like him, which made the character the ultimate anti-hero, and the series brutally effective.

08 February 07 - 14:43Polly Morgan the Taxidermist
I'm slack, and haven't looked at my website's logs for a while, so I wasn't aware that
Country Life has put a link to my site, instead of a link to
Polly Morgan, the British Fine Art Taxidermist, which is what I'm sure they wanted to do.
Her site is at:
www.pollymorgan.co.uk, so go there if you want to see her art work. It's an interesting site, although not really my cup of tea. I'm more into the sort of art work
Jennie Rosenbaum does (I'd rather look at pictures of naked ladies than stuffed animals - I freaked out when I saw
Phar Lap at the museum when I was a kid

).

04 February 07 - 00:29Funniest spam subject line I've seen in a while
Obviously, like everyone else with an email account, I get dozens of spam messages a day. I skim read them to make sure that a real message hasn't ended up in the spam folder, before deleting them (which I can mostly do by just reading the subject line). Some of spam's subject lines are mildly amusing, such the ones that say something like
Wanna learn how to please the ladies?, to which I think - cool, sounds like fun - until it becomes apparent they're trying to sell viagra. Still, at least it's more entertaining than the ones about junk bonds or
Hoodia! - as seen on Oprah (God, I hate the Oprah show). However, I never thought I'd see a subject line like this:
Rosie-Trump feud moves Doomsday Clock closer to Midnight.
WTF? That's just hilarious.
